Tutorial : DIY Floral Hairband

I wanna show you guys how to make floral hairband by using felts. I used to buy a lot of hairbands when my hair was much longer. And then mass produced hairbands' quality are usually kinda crappy because the ribbons, flowers and whatever details that stuck on the hairband usually come out in a week or two. So I now actually have like 3 hairbands with nothing on it because the whatever embellishments had came out. So this is like a mini hairband refurbishment project for me. Economy no good, have to re-furbish.

And then recently, I've been trying my hands on felt crafts and I had kinda felt in ♥ with it. Because it's so colorful and so nice. And then since I am so artsy fartsy like that, I am planning to do more tutorials on crafty stuffs. Hope you like my first tutorial ah.

08 DIY Hairband

Felted Floral Hairband

Here are the ingredients materials that you need to DIY your own hairband.

01 DIY Hairband

1) Felts (in color of you choice, I am a pink fanatic, so I've used two shades of pink here. You can use just one color also.)
2) Plain Hairband (If you can't find any, tear out the embellishments from your new hairband. :P)
3) Crystals/Pearls/Beads/Whatever you want to put in the middle
4) Flower Template (You can download and print the template at the end of this post.)
5) UHU Glue (Gun glue oso can.)
6) Scissors
7) Thread and Needle
8) Normal Marker/Felt Marker/Whatever marker that can be used to draw the template onto the felts

This is how you do it!

02 DIY Hairband

Cut out the template and draw 5 flowers on the felt(s).

03 DIY Hairband

Cut out the flower shape. Cut inside the line because you don't want to see the black line on the flower.

Next, thread your needle.

04 DIY Hairband

Put one flower as the base, then fold the second flower into half and put on top of the base. The continue to do the same thing to the rest of the flowers. Until you see step four. (Sorry I dunno how to explain!) >.<

04 DIY Hairband (2)

Hold on to the stacks of flowers that you had stacked (-_-") and stich in the middle of the flower liddis. You can stitch as many rounds as you like because the more you stitch the more secure the flower will be.

05 DIY Hairband

Stitch the Crystals/Pearls/Beads/Whatever you want to put in the middle.

06 DIY Hairband

And your flower is done! Happy onot?

07 DIY Hairband

Next, add some glue at the back of the flower (in the center only!) and stick it to your hairband. If you want it to be secured and not easily fall off, stitch the flower to the hairband after you've glued it.

08 DIY Hairband

And you're hairband is done! Easy onot?

09 DIY Hairband

I like the flower so much, I made a smaller and stick it to a ring. (The original flower on the ring had fell off too)

I've included the small version of flower in the template below too. :D

CAMWHORE TIME!

Please ignore the mess in the background.

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial. If you got any questions, feel free to drop me a comment or e-mail me at saewei [@] gmail [dot] com.

And here is the template.

Click and download it to print.

I actually copycat-ed the tutorial from this brilliant blogger, http://icandyhandmade.blogspot.com/2011/03/tutorial-box-fold-felt-flower-tutorial.html. Please thank her instead yah. >.<

P/S: Besides using the made flower as hairband and ring, you can also use it as brooch, earring (small one), stick it onto the gift box, etc. The possibilities are endless!

P/S 2: Please share with me your photo/bloglink after you had DIY one for yourself yah.

My FUUUUUUU Moment

Fashion Sketch : Wedding Gowns

I have been busy these few days with making dolls. Business has been really good this month. I have orders coming in every two days. It's great! Thank you all for the support, if you are reading this.

Today I wanna share with you some of the wedding gown sketches that I've done for my clients when I was working in my previous company. If you don't know yet, I used to work as a wedding gown designer before I quit that job to work from home.

Hope you like it!

Red Elegant Cheongsam Sketch by SaeWei Fashion Designer Malaysia

This is the design that I did for JustProud online competition. I did not win anything but receiving positive comments from other designers did boost my confidence a lot. Hehehe!

Bridemaid Dress Sketch by SaeWei Fashion Designer Malaysia

This is the dress that I've designed for a client. It was for her bridesmaid's dress. It's made of Duchess Satin and Chiffon. I love it, very Audrey Hepburn.

Glamorous Wedding Gown Sketch by SaeWei Fashion Designer Malaysia

This is the sketch that I prepared for Jacklyn. The original design is from Maggie Sottero. I think I tweaked the design a little bit because she wanted a sexier back.

Sexy Wedding Gown Sketch by SaeWei Fashion Designer Malaysia

This is the gown that I've designed for Lyn-Say. She was a plus sized bride, so she wanted something lacey, something grand and most importantly, something slimming. So tadahhhh!! A sexy Duchess Satin A-line gown with Corded Lace top and bottom. And red ribbon is added to make the waist appears slimmer. She loved it! She was closed to tears the first time she tried on it!

Customized Simple Wedding Gown Sketch by SaeWei Fashion Designer Malaysia

And lastly, a very simple trumpet gown. it has a detachable sash ribbon that has silver embroideries on it. And my client had requested for a quaint little lace bolero to wear a long with it. I think the gown turned great. Nice and simple. :D

I have so many more but let's post it another time but I am hit with blogger's block again!

Floral Wedges - Spring/Summer 2011 Shoe Trend!

If you knew me well, you would know that I am a sucker for floral prints. I love floral maxis, floral dress, floral bag, floral accessories and I am one people you'll find in the mall with a huge flower on her head. Yeah that's me!

So when I saw these wedges, I went wild!!!

DG-FloralWedge

These darlings are from Dolce & Gabbana's Spring/Summer 2011 collection. So pretty can.

ASOS-Floral-wedge-heels

I dunno what brand is this, but I find this to be really cute!

Floral-Wedge-sandal-HM-espadrille-shoetease

And this, imagine wearing these with a floral dress, on the beach, ogling hot guys.. hmmm

d-and-g-dolce-and-gabbana-spring-2011-floral-wedges-gallery

And this! OMG who don't love pink floral shoe???

vincci1

The only flower on the ankle shoe I've seen in 1 Utama is this pair in Vincci. It came in a few colors, there's pink too. But hmmm..I find the color to be really dull and boring.

Photo1062

Lousy photo taken with lousy Nokia C3.

So I ended up with these pair. Not exactly floral, but it's PINK! and there is an flower embellished in the middle. Wear this first, for the time being.

My day started really badly today, first I was late to work. My work starts at 10.00am, and I woke up at 10.15am with my mother screaming my heads off! O_o

Then my shoe broke off when I was walking to the taxi stand. It's just outside my apartment, but as I was already VERY late, I didn't bother to go back and change.

And then the stupid #%^#$%$&%#^$ taxi driver tried to cheat my money. When I reached my office building, the driver reset the meter before I had a chance to look at it. And demanded for RM5-00. I took taxi to work for almost 2 weeks now, and normally I only need to pay like RM3.00-RM3.30 because the distance from my house to the office is like 5 minutes walk away. So I argued with him and in the end, I put RM4-00 on the seat and went off. I wonder if he is going to wait outside my apartment/office building to kidnap me or not.

Some might ask, 5 minutes walking distance also take taxi. Walk lah...

The reason I CANNOT walk to work is because I sweat super easily. And if I were to walk to office, I will be drenched in sweat when I reached. And I don't to smell like rubbish bin. #excuse

Anyway, I bought a new shoe and threw my RM15-00 sandal away. It was only two weeks old. Tsk tsk tsk.

RIP sandal~

Fashion Sketches : Maternity Wear

I wanted to write something about the Bersih 2.0 rally and how much hatred I have towards our government, especially the idiotic and cruel PM. But I didn't join the rally (shame on me!) and I dun really know how to write out my feelings without cussing away. So.. I think why not write something happy when everyone is still so semangat and fired up after the successful demonstration. Like what DS Wong Chun Wai (Editor of The Star newspaper) written in the Star newspaper last Sunday...

And we can assume everyone would declare themselves winners. Bersih 2.0 will say that they managed to stage a protest despite the police locking down the city.

The authorities, too, will say that they won this round by claiming that the Bersih 2.0 crowd wasn’t as massive as they had expected.

Ibrahim Ali could also declare himself a winner as he could have successfully earned a place in the Malaysian Book of Records for taking the most number of strolls at Tasik Titiwangsa.

Umno Youth’s Patriots can also claim to be winners despite walking barely 200m before being tear-gassed and arrested. - DS Wong Chun Wai, The Star, 10th July 2011

I couldn't stop laughing when I was reading this piece of article.

And he was probably the only writer in the local news media that did not take sides blindly nor lied. Unlike other mainstream media like the news one the newspapers and news reported on local TV Channel, their reports were all filled with lies.

"Police did a good job in controlling the demonstrators."
"Demonstrators detained in PULAPOL were treated buffet lunch and those injured was given special care."
"Auntie selling curry puffs calculated loss of RM40m due to Bersih 2.0 rally."

There were wayyyy too many funny and ridiculous lies created to cover all the violent acts did by the Police and government.

And of all photos taken, the only photos that the newspaper dared to show was the photographs of Policemen shaking hands with the demonstrator. What about photos of FRU kicking the demonstrator until his leg broke? Or the photos showing Polices who beat up the detainees? No, you won't find that.

I am supposed to be showing you the maternity wear sketches that I have done prior to my previous job interview. -_-" That will be on the next post I think.

By the way, look at this clip if you haven't already did. Look at how childish the PM can be. It's unbelievable. Buat malu orang Malaysia only.

Sisters Kitchen @ GTower, Kuala Lumpur

Continuing from the food preview post..

After stuffing ourself in SocialKL, we were escorted to the second restaurant of the day. The Sisters Kitchen.

The Sisters Kitchen first their venture in food with Sisters Crispy Popiah. It is apparently, very famous because almost everyone knew about it.

Over here in Sister's Kitchen, you can find local delicacies like Nasi Lemak, Laksa, Penang Rojak, Soup Noodles and of course their famous Popiah, to name a few.

What I liked most about Sisters Kitchen in GTower is, the set up of the restaurant. And also the lighting is perfect for food photography.

DSCN4956_edited
Penang Rojak

The rojak sauce is thick and gooey like how I liked it. And as you can see, it comes with assorted fruits and cuttlefish. The only thing missing is the crispy Yew Char Koay.

DSCN4973
Popiah Mix

I am not sure what ingredients that are used to make these delicious popiah because it tasted different from the normal ones that I used to have.

DSCN4968_edited
Nasi Lemak With Fried Chicken

Their nasi lemak was quite good. But the highlight was the fried chicken. It was well marinated because it tasted very good. Best eaten when hot I must say.

DSCN4976
Seafood Soup Noodle

Tasted like any other noodle soup except, this comes with fresh prawns and squids. The seafood were cooked just right so it wasn't rubbery.

DSCN4970
Siam Lemak Laksa

This is my absolute favorite among all. It tasted like Thai Laksa + Penang Assam Laksa. Spicy with hints or sourish taste. The laksa also comes with seafood in it as well. You have to try this if you are into spicy food!

OMG looking at all these food photos made me hungry ady. -_-

My Favorite Paediatrician

This is not a paid review or something like that. Simply sharing and recommending a good doctor. :)

Every mother has a favorite paediatrician and mine is Dr Lai Boon Hai of Pantai Cheras Medical Centre.

By the way, if you scratching you head, Paediatrician is a medical practitioner specialized in children.

Dr. Lai had been there when baby was born. He was the one who caused me anxiety by telling me that my baby had been infected with jaundice. Being a new mom, a young one some more, I have no idea what the heck was jaundice back then. Almost gave me an heart attack.

What made me like Dr. Lai so much is, he speaks HOKKIEN! I don't know where he is from but he speaks and understands my dialect which makes communicating with him so much easier. You know, English speaking doctors have like a mouthful of medical jargon(s) that most of the time, I just nod away but at the back of my head, I actually don't know what they are talking about, but I don't bother to ask because I don't get it anyway. Besides Hokkien, he also speaks perfect English, Cantonese and Mandarin if you are wondering.

And the weirdest thing about having a favorite paed is, you have to return no matter what because the sickness won;t go away if we didn't bring our baby to see him.

Okay for example, there was one time, my baby had a serious phlegm problem, and Dr. Lai was away so we had gone and see another paed in the same hospital. Baby was then hospitalised for 3 days. After he was discharged, the phlegm problem was still there, and he was still having fever on and off. So we went back to Dr. Lai and like magic, the fever and fever gone in 2-3 days after taking his medicines. Unbelievable.

Now that we've moved to PJ, we still took 45-60 minutes drive all the way to Pantai Cheras Medical Centre to see Dr. Lai when needed. LOL.

So if you are looking for a reliable paediatrician, you can try Dr. Lai because he is experienced and he is very friendly and it doesn't cost a bomb to see him. :D

Korean Air Commercial

I saw this advertisement when I was in the cinema..This is like one of the best advertisement ever..

Transformers 3 : Dark Of The Moon

Ironhide

Awesome storyline! Awesome everything..
But I wished that Megan Fox is in it instead of the new British actress.. :(

Bringing Babies To The Cinema

I had a movie marathon today with my buddies, Evie and Aaron. We had a little movie marathon session, watching Green Lantern and Transformers 3. It was great because I haven't had such outing in a long long time.

It was kinda crowded in the hall playing Transformers 3. But it was understandable because it is one of the greatest movie in 2011.

But I was really surprised to a few parents with little babies in the hall with us. And 3 baby strollers can be spotted at the back of the seats.

I knew a few mommy bloggers that bring their children to the cinema for cartoons like, Up, Cars, etc.

But bringing a 1-2 years old child to watch Transformers is pretty insane if you ask me. The evil looking decepticons, the fights and the countless explosions. And the surround system in the cinema is so loud, I had to cover my ears during a few scenes. I pitied the small children because if I can't take the noise, how will they be able to handle it?

This is something I found off the internet.

It is by Dr. Susanne Ayers Denham, a Developmental Psychologist.

When you decide your child is ready to go with you to a movie theater, pick your flick carefully. Definitely pass on action movies designed for teenagers or adults. For one thing, the noise level is too harsh for your child's sensitive ears. At the age of 2 or 3, what she sees is what she believes, and a scary movie can bring on nightmares. Even G-rated movies can be too much for her to handle — a movie like The Lion King, for example, has plenty of frightening scenes.

If children are able to get scared watching Lion King, can you imagine what it had been like for them when they were watching Transformers? I really really pitied them for having such parents.

The parents are either a bunch of humans with dysfunctional brain that have zero common sense or they simply don't care, as long as they get to enjoy themselves.

If you have decided that you want a child, you have to prepare to let go all the fun you had when you were not a parent. Put your child first before anything else. You brought them to this world, be responsible about it.

I have stopped watching movie, stopped hanging out with friends, stopped dating with my husband and stopped joining any blogging activities since I gave birth to my baby. And only started to take a break and have some "me-time" recently because my son is almost 3 years old and my mom is capable of taking care of him without having me around.

It is understandable that sometimes, you need to have some time out to enjoy what you like to do but try to get someone to look after your child instead of bringing them along. Get your mother or mother-in-law to take care of your child for 3-4 hours so you could have some alone time to rejuvenate yourself. Because you deserved it.

But bringing your child along to watch such "noisy" movie was really too much.

SocialKL @ GTower, Kuala Lumpur

Last weekend I was invited with a bunch of other bloggers to attend a food tasting session over in GTower.

The first restaurant that we went was Social KL.

Social KL is one of a few restaurant where you can find almost any cuisine under one roof. Italian, Asian, Fusion, you name it, you got it! They even got a bar and wine post for you to chill after you're off from work.

Anyway, here comes the food!

DSCN4939_edited
Cappucino Style Mushroom Soup
This is the only place in Malaysia where you can find a soup that looks like a cup of frothy cappucino. >.<
The soup tasted really creamy with hints of mushroom taste in it. It's good and creamy but I prefer my mushroom soup to have chunky mushrooms in it.

DSCN4934_edited
Chicken Satay Pizza
The chicken was well marinated as it tasted really good and fragrant.
DSCN4946_edited
Teriyaki Salmon Pizza
The boss specially ordered us his favorite pizza on the menu. And guess what, after trying it, this Teriyaki Salmon pizza had easily became my favorite too. It's one of the nest pizza that I've ever eaten ever. Smoked salmon, bonito flakes, fresh avocado slices.. Who can resist this clever combination?

DSCN4940_edited
Peking Duck With Deep Fried Mantao Bun
The duck meats are sandwiched between two really cute mantao buns. And you are supposed to eat it with the "Hoi Sin" sauce provided.

DSCN4922_edited
Signature Iced Tea
A scoop of homemade sherbet is added to give the otherwise plain tea a flavoring. It has six flavors like, lychee, peach, calamansi, lemon, mango and lime. I've picked lychee flavor and I found the iced tea to be kinda diluted.

I was really surprised with their pricing because they serve really good quality food. And normally good quality food comes with expensive price tag, but it's not the case with SocialKl as their prices are really affordable.

And they have this really value-for-money lunch sets for RM19.90++ to RM29.90++ For those working nearby, do drop by to try their Socialied Lunch while socialising with your clients. I'm sure your clients will be impressed!
